Felodipine is used for the treatment of hypertension. It is a selective calcium antagonist, mainly inhibits the inward flow of extracellular calcium in the smooth muscle of small arteries, selectively dilates small arteries, has no effect on veins, and does not cause postural hypotension. The product does not affect glomerular filtration rate and creatinine clearance rate while decreasing renal vascular resistance, and renal blood flow is unchanged or even slightly increased, with pro-sodium excretion and diuretic effect. Felodipine is a vasodilatory calcium antagonist with a high degree of vascular selectivity. It is currently indicated for use only in hypertension, either as monotherapy or in conjunction with diuretics or beta blockers
Felodipine is a 1,4-dihydropyridine small molecule antagonist and calcium channel protein inhibitor. Antagonism of the vascular L-type (long-lasting) calcium channel decreases intracellular calcium concentration, softening the tone of vascular tissue and decreasing the peripheral resistance upon the blood stream, effectively decreasing systemic arterial blood pressure without affecting myocardial contractility. Felodipine is described to inhibit cytokine-induced NO and superoxide production as well as cytokine-induced NO synthase (NOS) mRNA induction, and is suggested to act as a scavenger of superoxide and not an inhibitor of inducible NOS induction. This indicates that Felodipine further protects the vasculature against endogenous free radical generation during inflammatory responses.

 

It is used for the treatment of hypertension, cardiac colic, congestive heart failure, and is effective for all degrees of hypertension.

Also used for the treatment of high blood pressure is a selective calcium antagonists, inhibit the main flow of extracellular calcium arterial smooth muscle cells, and selective expansion of small arteries, veins, no such effect, not cause orthostatic hypotension; myocardial also. no significant inhibition.
